Material Witnesses is a free exhibition that uses fashion and textiles to explore identity, community, sustainability and spirituality, focussing on the lives of people in Waltham Forest. The stories in this exhibition also challenge our understanding of activism, looking at the more quiet and hidden acts that bring people together and express who we are.
It includes a specially commissioned photography series ‘Sunday Best’ that explores faith, spirituality and fashion. The exhibition also includes banners from ‘Flags of our High Street Treasures’ which celebrates the diversity of Walthamstow High Street.
This is the first exhibition in the new gallery space at the ancient St Mary’s Church in Walthamstow.
