The “Made in Waltham Forest” Craft Market curated by Leyton&Stone Designers will take over Fellowship Square on 24 and 25 July to celebrate a selection of talented designers and craftspeople from across the borough.
Around twenty stallholders will be offering a tempting array of products including handmade jewellery, ceramics, kids’ clothing and soaps. Look out for craft kits using reclaimed materials, accessories made from recycled bike parts, knits from leftover yarns and digital products using recycled plastics. Plants in hand-painted pots, local Leytonstone honey and a wide range of artworks will make fantastic gifts for friends/family or yourself!
Local food and drink will be available from Mels Tropical Kitchen, Haven Coffee and Sweet Tooth, plus local arts gurus Continental Drifts will keep everyone smiling over the weekend with a set of live music, as part of their “Global Local” project:
Global Local Presents – A Local Global Special, featuring Walthamstow’s Noga Ritter and Friends, blending Afro grooves and jazz; Das Brass, Waltham Forest’s very own Brass band remix; Alvorado, a superb Brazilian Chorra band; MC and rapper Fedzilla and Stamford Hillbillys, mixing Klezmer and Cockney, West Indies meets Balkans.
Specially choreographed ‘splash mob’ dance performances in and around the fountain will take place at 1pm and 3pm on Saturday by local X7eaven Performing Arts Academy.
Two separate art installations from Waltham Forest Muslim Culture Forum artists Rezia Halima Wahid MBE and Juma Harding-Dimmock will also be on display.
Juma will be exhibiting her most recent works – “Woven Histories“, inspired by the quilts of the underground railroad and the socialist art of William Morris – alongside “Attributes”, where she teams up with the Blackhorse Responders to create work that prescribes positive attributes and symbolism to marginalised communities.
Take time to explore the artwork and meet the artists themselves.
