Learn how to measure, cut and stitch accurate patchwork quilt blocks in the first of a two day workshop. The second day covers freestyle blocks and then we will also cover binding the quilts.
This is a great class to take after the beginners class as the sewing will be mostly straight lines and it will allow you to practice more seams and other skills learned in the beginners class. You will need to know how to handle a sewing machine for this class but it’s very much still a class that’s achievable for beginners.
During this workshop you will work on a sample piece to learn the essential skills of patchwork and quilting.
+ How a patchwork quilt is designed and how you can design your own patterns
+ How to cut your patchwork pieces
+ How to piece patchwork pieces on a machine
+ How to baste and prepare your quilt for machine stitching
+ How to machine quilt using a variety of techniques
+ How to bind your quilt sample
+ What wadding is best for your project
+ An overview of quilting tools needed to get started
The skills learnt in this one day class will prepare you to tackle bigger quilting projects at home.
You will cover design, measuring, cutting, the use of various tools, and stitching. Then we will also discuss and learn all the different quilting techniques and tools. The classes runs for 5 hours each. They can be taken as stand alone classes although there are techniques covered only in one class which are quite important.
