Soho Theatre are teaming up with Waltham Forest Council to produce Waltham Forest Parks Festival, a series of free outdoor arts activities in parks across the borough. As the project finale this Autumn, we will be creating a new festival of light for Waltham Forest borough – the Langthorne Lantern Festival!
All around the world, lanterns and lantern festivals have been a cornerstone of cultural experience. From the ancient celebrations of China to Poland’s midsummer displays, lanterns give us a chance to light the way toward the future, illuminate our past, to release our worries and to share our hopes with each other.
This year we are bringing the tradition of lantern festivals to Waltham Forest, brightening the night in Langthorne Park by creating sustainably-powered light installations with borough residents. Join us on the 20 and 21 of October for a free light festival in the park to see and interact with these community-created light works, and join in our activities and making workshops for all ages to add your spark to the glow!.
