Beth Hopkins (Angharad/Queen Colobus) brings her honest lyricism and powerful compositions to Daylight Music this Winter. If the Welsh are known to have music in their blood and poetry in their soul, Beth has it by the bucketload. Beth’s authentic and raw lyrics are beautifully matched with poignant and captivating melodies. Her performance lulls you into a dreamy, woozy sweet space of lush vocals and saxophone. Beth will be joined by guitarist and housemate Jelly Cleaver to perform stripped back versions of their latest EP with Queen Colobus; a genre-bending 4-piece making waves in the London Jazz scene. Beth will also be performing brand new material from her newest project ‘Angharad’.
Jelly Cleaver is a guitarist, producer and singer-songwriter based in South London and has been called “exceptional” by Clash magazine, “a rising star” by Dummy Magazine and “outstanding… one to watch for sure” by BBC 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson. With a deep and eclectic love of music, Jelly is heavily involved in both the jazz and DIY/post-punk scenes in London. Jelly’s also an activist, and a strain of political dissent runs through her music. During lockdown she helped develop a workshop on Anti-racism which she delivered to Extinction Rebellion groups across the country as well as presenting the workshop at Brainchild Festival. Her recent project Cosmovisions builds from these radical roots, imagining a world where humankind can live in harmony with nature and itself.
Alternative soul singer/ songwriter China Bowls combines poetic and insightful lyricism with percussive guitar tones and soaring melodies to conjure a sound rich in feeling. Storytelling is at the heart of Bowl’s music and her warm conversational vocal guides the listener through intricate narratives.
