There will be rare possibility to hear “The Soldier Puppet”, an anti-Vietnam war solo cello piece by American Jazz Cellist and Composer Fred Katz (1919 – 2013). Fred’s work with the Chico Hamilton Quintet in the 1950’s brought him particular attention, as did his writing and appearance in the award winning Tony Curtis and Burt Lancaster movie, ‘Sweet Smell of Success’ and his film scores for many of the Roger Corman movies such as ‘The Little Shop of Horrors’.

It will be followed by performance of complete of SIX SUITES for unaccompanied Cello (BWV 1007-1012) by Johann Sebastian Bach, at St Michael and All Angels in Walthamstow (E17 6PQ), on Sunday 20th October, 5pm. One of the highlights of this festival will be final concert with virtuoso THE ART OF BOWING (L’Arte dell’Arco) – 50 variations written by Italian baroque composer Giuseppe Tartini (*April 8, 1692 Piran/Istrie – †February 26, 1770 Padova) on the theme of Corelli’s Gavotte in the transcription of French cellist Paul Bazelaire (*March 4, 1886 Sédan – †December 11, 1958 Paris) for cello solo.
