This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a small groups class to get hands on adjustments and corrections (if you want them!) I like variety in my classes so you wont be doing the same thing every week. I firmly believe that Pilates is for everyone – movement is key!

Kindred Meets

Date/time
7th March 2019, 10:00am - 11:30am

Location
Waltham Forest Community Hub
18A Orford Road
E17 9LN

Following our successful launch in 2018, we are thrilled to be returning to our homeland of Walthamstow at our lovely space in the village at the Waltham Forest Community Hub on Orford Road.

The next Walthamstow Meets will take place on Thursdays 10-11.30am from 17th January – 7th March 2019.

Our 8 week programme for new parents features classes and workshops with local postnatal specialists including mindfulness & parental self-care, paediatric first aid, baby-wearing & dance, sleep support, return-to-work coaching, creative play, music sensory, baby massage & yoga plus much more!

The aim of Kindred Meets is to connect parents with each other and with the best of what’s available to them, because connecting with like-minded individuals during those first few months is critical. Kindred Meets offers a supportive, safe and fun environment for new parents to meet. As parents ourselves, each with our own story and challenges through becoming Mums, we felt driven and inspired to create a community that was able to share experiences and stories, support and reassure one another.

So if you’re a parent of a 0-12 month old, and you’re looking for opportunities to meet, learn and share with your community, then we’d love you to join us! Our weekly Meets are 90 mins so you have time to settle yourself and your little one, before experiencing one of our brilliant partner classes that will last 45-60 minutes. There’ll be time for a debrief after the class, as well as time to browse through our ‘pay it forward’ nappy and toy box and our baby clothes swap rail. Every parent receives a gift bag and a professional photograph of you and your baby.

Here’s our program:

17th January: Meet your kin & parental self-care with Calm Mutha

24th January: Dancing/exercise with Sling Swing

31st January: Music sensory

7th February: Family nutrition and intro to weaning with Happy Tums

14th February: Baby massage & yoga with Jo Redmond

21st February: Paediatric first aid with Emergency First Aid Ltd

28th February: Creative play with Creation Station

Dance in the dark - A movement meditaition

Date/time
7th March 2019, 7:30pm - 9:30pm

Location
CentrE17
1 Church Hill
E17 3AB

“A meditative disco for introverts.”

“Euphoric and uplifting. Perfect antidote to the winter blues.”

“A really great experience, completely relieved my symptoms of anxiety and I feel some inner peace I have not felt for 30 years.”

MOVE & MEDITATE

In darkness, there is no visual stimulation, which allows us to drop deeper into meditation, get out of your mind and into the body. A chance to go inwards and connect deeply with yourself. Dancing can boost your overall happiness, release serotonin and endorphins, balance the mind and body and is a great form of low impact cardiovascular exercise.

Arrive in a warm, lowly-lit, atmospheric and calming environment. There is nothing to learn or follow, it is simply a space to dance. Nobody is watching you. You will be guided into a gentle warm up, breath work and awareness of the body. Then you will be free to drop deep inside and dance. Connect with yourself, be wild and free. After moving we will experience the stillness of our bodies with some soothing sounds and singing bowls. You’re welcome to stay and connect with our community for herbal tea and treats.

Dance to deep electronic, experimental, uplifting drumming and ambient music from all over the globe. People often come away feeling reformed, with a deeper conscious connection with nature, self and others. Experience a sense of liberation, purpose and self empowerment.

No experience needed.  This is a movement meditation. No alcohol permitted.

Doors Open: 7.30pm

TO RESPECT THE NATURE OF THIS EVENT, NO ENTRY WILL BE POSSIBLE AFTER 7.45PM

Please arrive promptly, make sure you bring clothes to move in and a water bottle.

WHAT IS FIRM FEET?

Firm Feet is run by Charlotte Boyd, combining her experiences and qualifications with movement, integral thinking, macrobiotics and traditional healing systems. Charlie runs Open Movement Meditation classes and holds Body awareness consultations in and around London.

You can email Charlie with any questions or find out more about other sessions in North & East London on her website:

Stow Film Lounge presents The Tricycle Thief (Marcus Shepherd, 2018) + Children’s Film Foundation Documentary

Following demand we are delighted to be screening our own first feature again and at the brilliant Gnome House.

This original feature film for kids, was filmed in Walthamstow over the summer of 2018 and features a cast from the Borough.

Someone stole grand-dad’s antique red tricycle – who is the thief and can 9 year old Audrey get it back?

One hot summer Saturday, en route to a party, an antique red tricycle is stolen from Audrey and Violet Couchman. It once belonged to their grand-dad and whoever took it stole a birthday present on the handle. 9 year old Audrey swears to get it back and sets out to reclaim the tricycle. In her mini-quest she discovers who the tricycle thief really is.

The follow up to his award-winning IDA back in 2013 is an equally masterful piece of filmmaking.

The film is a passionate love story between a man and a woman who meet in the ruins of post-war Poland. With vastly different backgrounds and temperaments, they are fatefully mismatched and yet condemned to each other. Set against the background of the Cold War in 1950s Poland, Berlin, Yugoslavia and Paris, it’s the tale of a couple separated by politics, character flaws and unfortunate twists of fate – an impossible love story in impossible times.

Doors open 7.45pm, Film 8.15pm, Close 10.15 pm

Refreshments:

There will be a licenced bar. Popcorn, ice-creams and hotdogs will be available.

Know your strengths

You know that feeling when you’re doing something that you don’t like? It just drains you, right? Let’s focus on what gets your energy levels up: your strengths. This workshop covers a very simple strength profiling approach that will help you understand what you’re good at and brings joy to your life, and explore how to include it in your career.

***************************

This is the fourth workshop of a 6-week programme to help you find a career that makes you happy.

Each workshop will cover different areas to think about when changing careers. You’ll spend two hours in a relaxed atmosphere talking with like-minded individuals, doing thought-provoking exercises, and challenging your vision of yourself, your career and your future. By the end of the programme, you will be ready to make change happen!

Each module combines a mix of lecture, group conversations, self-reflection and action-planning activities. You will explore your personality, motivations, dreams, and start planning the next steps in your career. You will be in a space where you can be yourself and share your thoughts within a small group of individuals in the same situation.

At the end of each workshop, you’ll take home a booklet filled with your thoughts and actions, as well as some thinking work. You will leave feeling energised and ready to tackle the next step in your journey.

If you book all 6 workshops, you get one free! Click here to buy it as a 6-week programme. Each workshop can be attended as a stand-alone.

***************************

The workshop is facilitated by Catherine, founder of People at Heart. After 10 years in global Talent Management roles, Catherine is now a Personal Development & Career Coach, helping others find a career that makes them happy.

***************************

Each workshop runs from 19.00 to 21.00. Please arrive a few minutes before to check in so we can start on time.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

AMERICAN ANIMALS (Bart Layton, 2018, Cert 15)

28th March 2019, 7:15pm - 10:15pm

Location
Wild Card Brewery (Lockwood Way)
Unit 2 Lockwood Way
E17 5RB

Stow Film Lounge is absolutely delighted to be working with the Wild Card Taprooms and Yard Sale Pizza to bring you our award-winning pop-up cinema in another exciting venue.

We continue this year with a film we think has been criminally overlooked, if you excuse the pun!

After four friends, who live an ordinary existence in Kentucky, visit Transylvania University, one comes up with the idea to steal the rarest and most valuable books from the school’s library. As one of the most audacious art heists in U.S. history starts to unfold, the men question whether their attempts to inject excitement and purpose into their lives are simply misguided attempts at achieving the American dream.

Doors open 7.15pm, Film 8.00pm, Finish 10.15pm

The Wild Card bar will be open as usual. We will be serving freshly made popcorn, hotdogs and ice-creams.

Yard Sale Pizzas (Margherita or Holy Pepperoni) can be pre-ordered by 1pm on the Tuesday before the day of the event and will be delivered at 7.30pm fresh to the site for you to enjoy with the film. See separate ticket option.

We Can Be Heroes Disco

Date/time
31st March 2019, 12:00pm - 4:00pm

Location
Walthamstow Trades Hall
61-63 Tower Hamlets Road
E17 6LS

Calling all mini Mad Maxes and tiny Tank Girls: We Can Be  Heroes is going beyond the Thunderdome! We’re back at Walthamstow Trades Hall on Sunday, 31st March. It’s a post-apocalyptic, dystopian disco for grown-up geeks and their kid sidekicks.

We Can Be Heroes is for fans of comic books, superheroes, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Star Trek, Dungeons & Dragons and every aspect of geek culture, past and present. It’s a whole afternoon of awesome!

The music is a mix of blockbuster soundtracks and 80s pop, upbeat inde and big, silly rock. Think John Hughes meets John Williams. Expect to hear Pat Benatar, the Ramones, Weird Al, Weezer, Kiss, AC/DC, Cyndi Lauper, They Might Be Giants, Violent Femmes, Bon Jovi, David Bowie, Kenny Loggins, and more. All played at a child-friendly volume that’s still perfect for dancing.

A dressing up box is provided, as well as games and puzzles to play, and loads of drawing materials available for budding comic artists. Plus, there’s face painting with a sci-fi and superhero slant from LoveLatouche Faces.

Dressing up really creates the atmosphere. Whilst we won’t have a strict costume policy, we want you – grown-ups and kids – to come dressed up as your favourite characters from comics, films, sci-fi or fantasy. Hero or villain? The choice is yours.

There will be no admission to adults unless they’re part of a group that includes children. So friends, grandparents, mentors, stoic and long-suffering manservants, etc. are all welcome.  We are operating an inclusive event, and we want it to be both safe and fun for everyone who comes along.

Walthamstow Trades Hall is located just off of Hoe Street, a 5-minute walk from Walthamstow Central and directly opposite Yard Sale Pizza. It has a dance floor, plenty of seating, and a cash-only bar with 1990s prices!

Tickets are just £6 for adults, £3 for children up to 16 year old. Children under 2 are free.

Ticket price: 6.00 Adult / 3.00 Child / Free under 2

7th March: Sleep support with Psychologically Minded

AMERICAN ANIMALS (Bart Layton, 2018, Cert 15)

Date/time
28th March 2019, 7:15pm - 10:15pm
