Lutes and Guitars – A trip through history.

12th May 2018
6:30pm - 9:30pm

Old Station Yard Cafe

Welcome to this musical journey from the 16th century to the present day through 9 stringed instruments.
Robert Foster, the leading lutenist in England will be talking about the conception, stringing and development of stringed instruments, peppered with anecdotes from his own experience as a professional guitarist and lutenist.
Together with jazz, ragtime, blues, folk and Celtic styles, as well as his own original compositions as an acoustic guitarist, Rob is equally at home on lutes and early guitars of various types and sizes, playing Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque music on authentic and original instruments.
Rob is also a prolific composer and, as a well known writer of music for TV, has many high profile credits, including the BAFTA award winning “USA 2000” for BBC2.
Participants are welcome to bring their own stringed instruments to discuss any questions around playing techniques.
